Is Your Work Making You Sick?

Understanding What Qualifies as an Occupational Disease
An occupational disease is any disease that is caused by the specific type of work that you do, as opposed to the types of work that the average person might do. If your job involves a higher rate of a particular disease, it may be considered an occupational disease.
It can be difficult to identify and prove the causes of occupational diseases, but many of them are known to be caused by the following.
- Chemical exposure: If you have been exposed to low levels of a chemical on a regular basis or have suffered acute toxic exposure due to a spill or leak, any medical consequences caused by your exposure would be considered an occupational disease.
- Dusty conditions: Brown lung disease and other respiratory diseases caused by dusty conditions were historically the most common occupational diseases, although changes in work conditions have helped many people avoid excessive dust exposure.
- Repetitive motion: Carpal tunnel syndrome, joint strains and other repetitive motion injuries are considered occupational diseases when they are work-related.
If you are suffering from cancer, pulmonary disease or any other disease that you think may be related in some way to the work that you do or have done in the past, please contact us to schedule an appointment with a knowledgeable workers' compensation attorney.
